Baffert & Miller

Bode Miller is a 2 time World Champion and 5 time Olympic medal winning skier including taking the Gold medal at the 2010 Olympics. He met Bob and Jill Baffert at the 2005 Kentucky Derby and found out they had named their son, Bode, after him while watching Miller ski at the 2002 Olympics. They became close friends and Bode expressed interest in the horse racing industry wanting to purchase a race horse. His grandfather was involved in racing and Bode loves the race track stating he has been to 10 Kentucky Derbies. Carving is his first race horse.  Jill Baffert was a television personality in Louisville prior to meeting and marrying Bob. She is very involved with the horses and loves to spend time at the barn and the races. Other top horses Jill has owned include Contested and Misremembered.

California Chrome Cruises to Victory in 140th Kentucky Derby before Crowd of 164,906

Steven Coburn and Perry Martin's favored California Chrome, ridden by Victor Espinoza, took command at the head of the stretch en route to a 1 3/4-length victory over Commanding Curve to win the 140th running of the $2,202,800 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (Grade I). A sun-splashed crowd of 164,906, the second-largest attendance in Kentucky Derby history, watched California Chrome give jockey Victor Espinoza a second Derby victory to go with his triumph on War Emblem in 2002.
