Klaravich Stables Inc. & William H. Lawrence
Seth Klarman, of Klaravich Stables, is the president of The Baupost Group, one of the most successful hedge fund companies in the world. Following his graduation from Cornell, he began his professional career with Mutual Shares Corporation. He went on to Harvard Business School and joined the newly formed Baupost in 1982. He is a recpient of Harvard Business School's highest honor, the Alumni Achievement Award and is a minority owner of the Boston Red Sox. Klarman discovered racing by growing up three blocks from Pimlico Race Course. He bought his first horse in the 1980s with a friend and then became involved in partnerships. In 1993, he and an old friend, Jeff Ravich, who grew up with Klarman in Baltimore, started Klaravich Stables, which was derived from the two owners’ names. Ravich left the racing end of the partnership to start his own stable on the West Coast in 2004. Klarman kept the stable name and formed a partnership with William Lawrence, whom he met through a mutual friend. Most of the horses owned by Klaravich Stables are given names with financial connections.
