Pedigree

Escapefromreality inherits speed from his sire, but his dam's side helps to redress the balance.

He is by Read the Footnotes, who turned the Nashua/Remsen double at two and scored a hard-fought win in the Fountain of Youth at three. The son of champion sprinter Smoke Glacken wound up only seventh in the 2004 Kentucky Derby, which turned out to be his final start.

Read the Footnotes has tended to be an influence for speed, with his best progeny being Ballerina winner Rightly So and multiple New York-bred stakes scorer Opus A.

Escapefromreality is the first registered foal from the unraced mare Queen of the City, whose pedigree has classic depth.

She is from the first crop of Medaglia d'Oro, the 2002 Travers star who got off to a terrific start at stud by siring 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra. That set the pattern for him as a filly sire, for he is also responsible for such top fillies as Plum Pretty, Champagne d'Oro, Gabby's Golden Gal and Marketing Mix -- all boding well for his long-range prospects as a broodmare sire. But Medaglia d'Oro has several good sons as well, including current Derby hopefuls Violence and Den's Legacy.

Queen of the City is herself the first registered foal from the multiple stakes-placed Biogio's Beauty, who is by the noted sire Distorted Humor. Biogio's Beauty is out of a stakes-placed daughter of 1981 Derby and Preakness-winning champion Pleasant Colony.

Aside from the heft of such stallions in his dam's pedigree, Escapefromreality is also aided by the quality deeper in the female line. He traces to the great matron Solar Display, ancestress of the likes of English/Irish champion and renowned sire Storm Bird.
