Mike Maker

Trainer

Maker, the son of a trainer, grew up in the suburbs of Detroit attending races at Hazel Park and Detroit Race Course. At the young age of 13, Maker was already involved in the Thoroughbred industry as a horse owner. He was an assistant for Hall of Fame trainer D Wayne Lukas and worked with Kentucky Derby winner Charismatic. Maker opened his own stable in 2003 & has trained top horses including: Eclipse Award winner, Hansen, Derby Kitten and Stately Victor.

Alan Garcia

Jockey

Alan Garcia’s father and grandfather were both professional riders in Garcia’s native Peru. Garcia was named leading apprentice in his country and soon moved to the United States to advance his riding career. In 2008, he won the Belmont Stakes aboard Da’Tara which spoiled Big Brown’s attempt at a Triple Crown. Garcia will be making his 4th consecutive start in the Kentucky Derby. Other top mounts include Regal Ransom and Alpha.

Frank Irvin

Owner

Pedigree

Fear the Kitten has an abundance of stamina in his pedigree, principally of the turf variety.

His sire, Kitten's Joy, reigned as the champion turf horse of 2004 following victories in such major events as the 1 1/2-mile Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational and the 1 1/4-mile Secretariat.

Most of Kitten's Joy's notable runners have likewise excelled on turf and synthetic surfaces, including Stephanie's Kitten, winner of the 2011 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf; Dean's Kitten; Banned; Holiday for Kitten; and Big Blue Kitten. A significant exception is Csaba, who captured four straight dirt stakes this fall and winter.

Fear the Kitten is out of Dynarhythm, a winning daughter of the influential Dynaformer. A source of redoubtable stamina, Dynaformer has sired 2006 Kentucky Derby romper Barbaro; 2010 Melbourne Cup hero Americain; European classic winners Lucarno, Blue Bunting and Wiener Walzer; and $4 million-earner Perfect Drift.

Dynarhythm is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Adhrhythm. Both were produced by multiple stakes scorer Relic Rhythm.
