Pedigree

With a nice balance of speed and stamina, Fury Kapcori rates as an excellent candidate for the 1 ¼-mle distance with his pedigree.

He is by top sire Tiznow, the only two-time winner of the Breeders’ Cup Classic and Horse of the Year in 2000. The Hall of Famer is by Cee’s Tizzy, a son of Relaunch, and unlike most modern Thoroughbreds, Tiznow is a direct male line descendant of Man ‘o War. His notable offspring include Travers winner Colonel John and Belmont Stakes upsetter Da’ Tara.

Fury Kapcori’s dam, Gin Running, won only once but raced 19 times, mostly at distances from a mile to 1 1/8 miles. She is a daughter of 1994 Kentucky Derby winner Go for Gin, who was mostly a disappointment as a sire but is represented as a broodmare sire by Gantry, a top sprinter in 2012. Fury Kapcori is a full brother to Grade 2 winner Tizfiz, who raced mostly in turf routes; and is a half-brother to Dixie Commander, who captured the Turf Paradise Derby at 1 1/16 miles.

Tiznow and Go for Gin provide a basis in stamina, and Fury Kapcori’s third maternal dam is stakes winner Evil Elaine, who is known for producing Horse of the Year Favorite Trick. That is high speed indeed. Favorite Trick won stakes races up to 1 1/16 miles, but the fast colt finished eighth when trying to stretch out to 10 furlongs in the Kentucky Derby.

It is a classy female family with plenty of black-type performers, and Fury Kapcori’s pedigree is ideal for a Kentucky Derby contender.
