Born November 21, 1942 in Newark, New Jersey.Rose worked for his father’s race stable as accountant until 1998 when his father suffered a heart attack and served as assistant trainer for the barn.In 2003 his father Harold passed away, and then Rose took over the training duties.His family also owns a breeding operation in Ocala, Florida, where they keep broodmares and some stallions.Rose trains for the Rose Family Stable. Harold Rose trained two starters in the Kentucky Derby. In 1984 Rexson’s Hope (10th) and 2000 with Hal’s Hope (16th).Joanie’s Catch would mark the first starter for Rose in the Kentucky Oaks.
Rose Family Stable
Owned by Elsie Rose and her son Barry, who also trains the stable.Started by Harold Rose, who was a legend in South Florida. Along with his wife Elsie they were known as the first couple of Florida racing.After Harold’s passing in 2003 Barry took over the families racing operation. Harold and his wife Elsie, has written four books about the family’s experiences in racing and in 2000 the family gained national attention with Hal’s Hope, who won the Florida Derby and became the sentimental favorite for the Kentucky Derby. He would run 16th.Top runners for the Rose Family Stable include: Mia’s Reflection, Alisa’s Hope, Hal’s Image, and Hal’s My Hope.
