• Born June 7, 1952 in Mont de Mars, France. • Third generation horseman. • Biancone was an accomplished rider on the flat and over jumps before switching to training. • Worked as an assistant to Hall of Fame trainer LeRoy Jolley from 1973 – 1974. • Returned to France to open his own stable in 1975, and saddled his first winner that May at Le Toquet with Kalium. • Biancone has achieved success on three continents- Asia, Europe, and North America. • Biancone’s best finisher in the Kentucky Derby is a second-place finish with Lion Heart in 2004 • He was influential in developing the care
The son of a jockey, Smith, rode in his first race at age 11. In 2005 Smith guided Giacomo to a win in the Kentucky Derby, and in 2013 rode Princess of Sylmar to victory in the Kentucky Oaks. He has won both the Preakness and Belmont Stakes and 17 Breeders' Cup races, including three Classics. He has won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey, the Mike Venezia Memorial Award, the George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award, and was inducted in the the Hall of Fame in 2003.
