Patrick Biancone


• Born June 7, 1952 in Mont de Mars, France. • Third generation horseman. • Biancone was an accomplished rider on the flat and over jumps before switching to training. • Worked as an assistant to Hall of Fame trainer LeRoy Jolley from 1973 – 1974. • Returned to France to open his own stable in 1975, and saddled his first winner that May at Le Toquet with Kalium. • Biancone has achieved success on three continents- Asia, Europe, and North America. • Biancone’s best finisher in the Kentucky Derby is a second-place finish with Lion Heart in 2004 • He was influential in developing the career of Julien Leparoux, who in 2009 won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey. Leparoux worked as exercise rider for three years for Biancone’s stable. • Noteworthy horses: Lion Heart, Asi Siempre, Whywhywhy, Baroness Thatcher, Lady of Venice, Nownownow, Arosa, and Cosmonaut

Mike Smith


The son of a jockey, Smith, rode in his first race at age 11.  In 2005 Smith guided Giacomo to a win in the Kentucky Derby, and in 2013 rode Princess of Sylmar to victory in the Kentucky Oaks. He has won both the Preakness and Belmont Stakes and 17 Breeders' Cup races, including three Classics. He has won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey, the Mike Venezia Memorial Award, the  George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award, and was inducted in the the Hall of Fame in 2003. Mounts include: Azeri, Zenyatta, Holy Bull, Skip Away, Thunder Gulch, and Lure.

Owned by Joseph B. Greeley. Lives in Oyster Bay Cove, New York and owns a 180-acre farm Sabine Farm in Micanopy, Florida.Greeley usually spends two months each year at the farm while the mares foal.He became interested in horse racing after a chance meeting on a train ride. The man sitting next to him told him about the excitement of the Kentucky Derby and that’s when his start in the sport started.Greeley usually races about a dozen horses a year, mostly in New York.Best bred horses have been Graeme Hall, Lion Heart, and Line of David, all Kentucky Derby starters.

Los Alamitos Futurity Added to 2014-15 'Road to the Kentucky Derby' Series

The $500,000 Los Alamitos Futurity (Grade I) has been added to the list of races that comprise the 2014-15 “Road to the Kentucky Derby.” The series of 35 select races – 19 “Prep Season” races and 16 “Championship Series” races – will determine which horses qualify to the 141st running of the $2 million guaranteed Kentucky Derby.
