Nick Gonzalez

Trainer

Nick Gonzalez began training in 1976 and has been one of the leading trainers at Fort Erie and Woodbine race courses in Canada. In 2009 he won the most races in Ontario of any trainer and followed that up in 2010 with the biggest win of his career in the prestigious Queen's Plate at Woodbine with Big Red Mike. He has earned over a million in purses every year since 2007 with additional stable stars River Seven, Canadian Champion Wholelottabourbon, Awesome Fire and Delaforce.

Tucci Stables

Owner

Lou Tucci and his nephew Carlo race as Tucci Stables and are primarily based at Woodbine Racecourse in Canada. They had initial success with One for Rose who they claimed for $40,000 and she would go on to win over a million dollars in purses and be crowned Champion older mare in Canda with the prestigious Sovereign Award a record 3 consecutive years. They have also campaigned G-3 Grey Stakes winner River Seven and Evil Kitten.

Pedigree

River Seven's pedigree sends mixed messages about his ideal distance while hinting that turf or synthetic could be his preference.

Sire Johannesburg reigned as both European and U.S. champion two-year-old colt after invading Belmont Park to win the 2001 Breeders' Cup Juvenile in his dirt debut. He has likewise sired top performers on both dirt and turf. Many have had distance limitations, such as Scat Daddy, the 2007 Florida Derby winner, and the sprinter Teuflesberg. But two of his turf standouts, French champion Sageburg and Australian Oaks winner Once Were Wild, stayed much farther than Johannesburg himself did.

River Seven is the first registered foal from Sans Souci Island, who scored her single stakes win in a 1 1/8-mile turf race.

Sans Souci Island is by the regally-bred turf horse Chester House, the dominating winner of the 2000 Arlington Million. Chester House is best known as a turf sire, but he was not one-dimensional, and his versatility could be coming through his daughters as well. As a broodmare sire, his headliner is triple-surface star Twirling Candy.

River Seven's female line is thoroughly European, reinforcing the turf/synthetic profile.
