Bill Mott has had seven starters in the Kentucky Derby with his best finish coming in 2009 with Hold Me Back. He won his first Triple Crown race with Drosselmeyer in the 2010 Belmont Stakes. Bill owned and trained his first horse named My Assets at the age of 15. He won his first race with this mare who he purchased for $320. Before he graduated high school, he had won the South Dakota Futurity with Kosmic Tour. He worked for Hall of Fame trainer Jack Van Berg for three years and gained valuable knowledge about running his own training operation, opening his own racing stable in 1978.
Live Oak Plantation
Charlotte Weber is the owner of Live Oak Plantation and was introduced to horse racing at a very young age by family members. She is the granddaughter of the Campbell Soup founder, John T. Dorrance, and one of the heirs to the company’s fortune. In 2005 she was honored with the Penny Chenery Most Distinguished Woman in Racing Award. Charlotte’s, Live Oak Stud, a 4500 acre breeding operation in Ocala Florida, has had offspring that have won at least $1 million in earnings for the past decade.
