Anne P. Smith

Anne Smith had a bachelor's degree in biology, worked jobs in chemistry, was on a waiting list for medical school and had been accepted into Officer Candidate School for the Marines when she decided to get into the horse industry.  A family friend and doctor encouraged her to pursue her passion, telling her "If you love horses, you should give that a shot."  She went on to teach horse riding and compete in show jumping.  Later, she started galloping racehorses and became a trainer in 2013.  In her first year as a trainer she campaigned Graded Stakes winner Nate's Mineshaft.

Windy Hill Farm

Smarty Jones-Silver Echo, by Eastern Echo

Download Full Pedigree (PDF)

Smarty's Echo is by Smarty Jones, the Kentucky Derby and Preakness-winning champion of 2004.

Smarty Jones swept the Oaklawn road to the Derby -- the Southwest, Rebel and Arkansas Derby -- and stayed unbeaten through the first two jewels of the Triple Crown. He suffered his first and only career loss when going for the Triple Crown in the Belmont, passed late by Birdstone in a massive upset.

Retired to stud without racing again, Smarty Jones has sired 2013 Triple Bend winner Centralinteligence; Singapore standout Better Life; and Grade 2 victors Backtalk and Old Time Hockey.

Smarty's Echo is a half-brother to multiple Canadian stakes winner Notoriously and to stakes victress Cherokee Echo. Their dam, the multiple stakes-placed Silver Echo, has produced a grand total of six runners, all winners.

Silver Echo is by Eastern Echo, unbeaten winner of the 1990 Futurity. A well-bred son of Damascus, Eastern Echo sired 2003 Santa Anita Derby hero Buddy Gil and Grade 1-winning sire Swiss Yodeler.

Smarty's Echo hails from the family of Grade 2 scorers Star of Manila and Mio Robertino, and 2009 French 2000 Guineas victor Silver Frost.

Aside from the familiar duplication of Mr. Prospector, Smarty's Echo is inbred 4x3 to blueblood full siblings Hero's Honor and Wild Applause. They are both by Northern Dancer and out of Broodmare of the Year Glowing Tribute, dam of 1993 Kentucky Derby winner Sea Hero.
