Vow to Wager elevated to victory in Battaglia Memorial

Donegal Racing's VOW TO WAGER (Broken Vow) turned in a second consecutive upset victory at Turfway Park in Saturday's $100,000 John Battaglia Memorial S., but needed a little help from the stewards to do so. The judges disqualified first-place finisher Codoy (Bernstein) and placed him second after he drifted out into Vow to Wager turning for home, instead awarding the race to the 23-1 longest shot on the board ridden by John McKee. The final time for 1 1/16 miles on Polytrack was a pokey 1:48 4/5.

Conditioned by Dale Romans, Vow to Wager entered the Battaglia off a 5 1/2-length maiden score on January 31 at 9-1. The dark bay had been unplaced in all three starts as a juvenile, including a maiden claiming loss at Churchill Downs. With this stakes debut win in the Battaglia, a local prep for the Lane's End S. (G2) on March 27, Vow to Wager has now bankrolled $74,024 from a line of 5-2-0-0.

Kera's Kitten (Kitten's Joy), the 6-5 favorite off a score in the W.E.B.N. S., threw in the towel at the top of the stretch and trailed home last in the field of eight.
