Know More the one to beat in Frontrunner

Know More opened his racing career with aplomb, winning the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes at first asking on August 5, and followed it with a respectable second in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity. The Doug O'Neill-trained colt can confirm his status as a top contender for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile with a victory in Saturday's Grade 1, $250,000 Frontrunner Stakes at Santa Anita.

Formerly known as the Norfolk, the 1 1/16-mile Frontrunner is part of the new "Road to the Kentucky Derby" series and the top four finishers will be award 10-4-2-1 points, respectively.

Know More, who races for 2012 Kentucky Derby winner J. Paul Reddam, will face 10 rivals from post 7 with Garrett Gomez.

Bob Baffert has captured the race five times -- Souvenir Copy (1997), Flame Thrower (2000), Kafwain (2002), Roman Ruler (2004) and Lookin at Lucky (2009) --  and the three-time Kentucky Derby winner will be represented by a trio on Saturday: Carving, Den's Legacy and Power Broker.

Carving, who is owned by Olympic and World Champion gold medalist skier Bode Miller and Baffert's wife, Jill, will bring a two-for-two mark into the Frontrunner, winning a high-priced maiden claiming event at Del Mar prior to his 3 /12-length score in the September 12 C.B. Afflerbaugh Stakes at Fairplex. Martin Garcia has the assignment. Power Broker will go turf to dirt following his neck second in the September 5 Oak Tree Juvenile Turf Stakes and the chestnut colt will retain the services of Rafael Bejarano. Den's Legacy exits a maiden special weight tally at Del Mar and will pick up jockey Alonso Quinonez.

Capo Bastone captured his career bow at Del Mar on August 4, rallying dramatically from the back of the pack, and the John Sadler-trained colt is eligible to keep moving forward off a fourth in the Del Mar Futurity. Victor Espinoza rides.

The Frontrunner, one of five Grade 1 stakes on a blockbuster Breeders' Cup preview card at Santa Anita, will be run as the 7TH race at approximately 7:07 p.m. (EDT).
