Bonde grew up in a family full of horse farriers but decided to follow a different path and took out his trainer’s license in 1973 at age 19. Bonde has become a formidable force on the west coast and won his first career Grade 1 when Smiling Tiger scored in the Bing Crosby Stakes at Del Mar. He has trained numerous graded winners such as Sierra Sunset, High Tech Friend, Epic Honor, and Red’s Sky.

Michael House

Owner

Michael House is a longtime owner based in California and owns Chestnut Farm, a thoroughbred breeding operation, in Versailles Kentucky. He began racing in 1972 and first raced Appaloosas on the California Fair Circuit before getting involved in thoroughbreds. He owns and operates a company that deals in commercial real estate development and property management. Top stakes performers include Battle of Hastings, Delta Storm, Final Fling, Cayoke and Nazirali.

Pedigree

Dawn’s Charm is out of the Grade 2-placed Silver Charm mare Deb’s Charm by Grade 1-winning millionaire sire Hard Spun, making her a half-sister to the stakes-scoring Simply Spiteful.

Deb’s Charm is herself a half-sister to a pair of black-type runners, including dual Grade 3 heroine Tasha’s Miracle, who ran fourth in the 2007 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. The mare is also a half-sibling to the dam of Grade 2 scorer Concord Point.

Dawn’s Charm, who counts as her third dam Grade 2 diva A Penny is a Penny, is by Grade 1-winning sire Hard Spun.

That stallion earned more than $2.6 million while placing in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Breeders’ Cup Classic.

His offspring includes the likes of reigning champion three-year-old filly Questing as well as Grade 1 diva Zo Impressive.
