Bill Mott

Trainer

Bill Mott has had seven starters in the Kentucky Derby with his best finish coming in 2009 with Hold Me Back. He won his first Triple Crown race with Drosselmeyer in the 2010 Belmont Stakes. Bill owned and trained his first horse named My Assets at the age of 15. He won his first race with this mare who he purchased for $320. Before he graduated high school, he had won the South Dakota Futurity with Kosmic Tour. He worked for Hall of Fame trainer Jack Van Berg for three years and gained valuable knowledge about running his own training operation, opening his own racing stable in 1978.

A native of Venezuela, Alvarado became a jockey because his dad was a jockey and he wanted to be a just like him. He won the 2009 riding title at Arlington Park and won the 2010 Grade I Beverly D Stakes on Eclair de Lune.

Flashy Gray was tabbed as a Kentucky Oaks prospect following a 10 1/4-length romp at Churchill Downs last November in just her second start. The gray miss is by Flashy Bull, who tried the Kentucky Derby in 2006 after placing in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth and running fourth in the Grade 3 Holy Bull.

Flashy Bull actually was never able to win during his sophomore season, but did follow his subpar 14th-place Derby run with a third in an allowance and the Grade 2 Ohio Derby.

As a four-year-old, the gray horse got back on the winning track to take four straight races, including the Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap under the Twin Spires and the Grade 3 William Donald Schaefer Handicap at Pimlico.

Flashy Gray, who is among her sire’s top offspring from two crops to race thus far, is out of the unraced Cat’s Career mare Pleasure Cat.

Pleasure Cat never competed but is a half-sister to a pair of stakes-placed runners as well as the dam of Grade 2 hero Silver Wizard and Grade 3 victress Ammy Hills.

Flashy Gray’s fourth dam produced multiple Grade 2 scorer L’Heureux and Missile Belle, who captured the 1970 runnings of the Coaching Club America Oaks and Gazelle Handicap.
