He won four straight Eclipse Awards as top trainer from 2004-2007 and again in 2010, 2013 and 2014. The Texas native has also been the leading American conditioner by money won nine times since 2004. He's conditioned multiple Eclipse champions including Uncle Mo, Ashado, English Channel, Speighstown, Fleet Indian, Wait a While, Lawyer Ron, and Left Bank – and has saddled a co-record five starters in the Kentucky Derby twice before (2007 & 2013). Pletcher ranks second by Kentucky Derby starters with 40, trailing only living-legend D. Wayne Lukas.
Fusaichi Pegasus--Cry Baby, by Dance Brightly
Fusaichiswonderful began her career in Puerto Rico, going undefeated from five starts, before suffering her first loss in her U.S. debut, the Grade 2 Forward Gal on January 26.
The chestnut daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus got back to her winning ways in the March 1 Primal Force at Gulfstream Park, taking that 6 1/2-furlong contest by 5 3/4 lengths.
Her sire racked up a number of wins in the beginning of his career as well, taking the San Felipe and Wood Memorial, both Grade 2s, before succeeding as the 2-1 favorite in the 2000 Kentucky Derby.
Fusaichi Pegasus raced just three more times, finishing second in the Preakness and taking the Grade 2 Jerome Handicap before concluding his career with a sixth-place run in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
At stud, the bay has sired multiple champions internationally as well as Grade 1 winners Roman Ruler, Champ Pegasus and Bandini stateside.
Fusaichiswonderful’s dam is the unraced Dance Brightly mare Cry Baby and she comes from the same female family as track-record setter Stop the Music and Hatchet Man, both Grade 2 scorers.
