W. Bret Calhoun
Bret launched his training career in 1993 at Louisiana Downs with horses bred by his father Buddy Calhoun. In 2003 he made the national spotlight with the undefeated two year old Cactus Ridge owned by country music start Toby Keith. Bret won two Breeder's Cup races at Churchill Downs on 2010 with Dubai Majesty and fan favorite Chamberlain Bridge who he claimed for $35,000. Bret has several racing operations at tracks from the southeast, midwest to the east coast and is well known for his developement of young horses as well as improvement of racing stock that he claims.
Iroquois Racing Club LLC
Iroquois Racing Club LLC is a partnership that buys and sells young thoroughbreds and offers ownership in active racing stock. Alex Gans is the bloodstock manager and is a graduate in Business from the University of Louisville. He spent his summers working at Hermitage farm prepping the young horses for the sales. He also worked as a veterinary assistant and for Eclipse Award winning trainer Todd Pletcher.
City Zip found success sprinting and at route distances as well as running in two starts on turf. He captured six graded contests and placed in seven others, gaining credit in four total Grade 1s during his time on track.
City Zip’s offspring have, to date, earned more than $36 million in purse money, and some of his notable offspring include unbeaten Grade 1 winner Bustin Stones, last year’s Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup victress Dayatthespa, multiple Grade 2 queen City to City and Grade 2 diva Reneesgotzip, who was third behind the boys in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint last November.
Antique Crystal didn’t find the kind of success City Zip enjoyed on track, but the Devil His Due mare hit a homerun with Gal About Town.
This female line has also been responsible for Group 1 heroine Chelsea Rose as well as dual French champion and classic winner Sicambre.
