Curlin--Lady Melesi, by Colonial Affair
Liberated is by dual Horse of the Year and $10 million earner Curlin, who captured the Preakness and Breeders’ Cup Classic in 2007 before going on the next year to add the Group 1 Dubai World Cup to his already impressive resume.
Liberated is from her sire’s first crop to race. The filly’s dam is the Grade 1-placed dual stakes-winning Colonial Affair mare Lady Melesi.
Prior to Liberated, Lady Melesi had already produced stakes victor Roman Emperor and Grade 2-placed stakes hero Seruni.
Liberated’s fourth dam is Marking Time, who captured the 1966 edition of the Acorn and ran second in that year’s Mother Goose. Marking Time go on in the breeding shed to foal Grade 1-winning champion and Broodmare of the Year Relaxing.
Relaxing’s progeny include classic-winning champion Easy Goer, whose rivalry with Sunday Silence dominated the 1989 racing season, as well as Grade 1 queens Easy Now and Cadillacing.
This female family is also responsible for champion Bridal Flower and stakes-placed Kentucky Oaks hopeful Sweet Tess.
