Marks Mine has already proven more successful than her dam, the Capote mare Ermine Fever who finished a well-beaten 12th and last in her only career start.
The bay filly’s sire, Benchmark, did much better on track, taking a trio of Grade 2 contests in Southern California over five seasons of racing.
He’s also done quite well in the breeding shed, siring the likes of Grade 1 winners Brother Derek, Idiot Proof and Silent Sighs.
As a half-sister to Grade 2-winning Tejano Run and More Royal, Ermine Fever was sent to the breeding shed after her first race, and Marks Mine is the mare’s first stakes winner.
Another of Ermine Fever’s half-siblings another Kentucky Oaks hopeful in Grade 1 Alcibiades winner Spring in the Air, while yet another is the granddam of Group 2 heroine and Group 1 Irish One Thousand Guineas placed Laughing Lashes.
This is the same female family as multiple champion and leading sire Blushing Groom.
