Mahmood Al Zarooni

Trainer

Mahmood was appointed as trainer to the powerful Godolphin Team in March of 2010 and quickly stamped himself as a top conditioner when he won the Godolphin Mile on the Dubai World Cup program with Calming Influence, his first runner. In a short period he has added classic wins by Blue Bunting in the 1000 Guineas and Darley Irish Oaks, as well as high profile victories in the Prince of Wales and Dubai Sheema Classic with Rewindling. 2012 kicked off in the highest fashion for Al Zarooni by capturing the Dubai World Cup with Monterosso for Godolphin. Prior to becoming one of the head trainers for Godolphin he served as assistant to their head conditioner, Saeed bin Suroor.

Godolphin

Owner

Godolphin is a global racing operation founded by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, prime minister and ruler of Dubai. In 1996 he founded the Dubai World Cup which currently ranks as the world's richest race. Godolphin has won the Dubai World Cup five times including a win by Horse of the Year Invasor who captured the Breeders Cup Classic as well. They were named Eclipse champion owner in 2009 and consistently are among the top stables throughout Europe. Other top runners include Belmont Stakes winner Jazil, Daylami, Dubai Millenium, Street Cry, Fantastic Light, Tempera, Regal Ransom and Discreet Cat. Sheikh Mohammed also races under the Darley Stable banner.

Pedigree

While bred in Kentucky, Music Chart has thus far competed exclusively overseas. She is out of the turf-winning Cozzene mare Conchita and by Exchange Rate, who was also successful on the grass.

Exchange Rate is perhaps best known for winning the Risen Star and Grade 2 Tom Fool Handicap while placing in a quartet of graded contests on track.

The stallion’s offspring have themselves found success all over the world, from Alnajim Almodeea winning the King Abdulaziz Cup in Saudi Arabia to Ermine capturing the Grade 1 Apple Blossom Handicap at Oaklawn Park to Reckless Abandon scoring in the Group 1 Middle Park in England and Group 1 Prix Morny in France.

Ermine is also notable for rallying from last to be second in the 2006 Kentucky Oaks.

Music Chart’s dam, Conchita, didn’t achieve much on track but she is a half-sister to Group 1 victress White Moonstone.

The filly’s second dam is Grade 3-placed stakes winner Desert Gold while her fourth dam, the unraced Breezy Stories, is noted for producing Desert Stormer, who captured the 1995 Breeders’ Cup Sprint over the boys.

Desert Stormer is the granddam of last year’s Grade 1 Matriarch winner Better Lucky as well as dual Grade 2 victor Casino Host.

This female line is also responsible for Canadian champion Sound Reason.
