Andrew Leggio Jr.

Trainer

Leggio started in horse racing in his teens where he learned the art of riding and grooming horses from his father. Leggio’s racing career started as a jockey, but he soon joined the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, which cut his riding career short. He began training horses in 1970 and trains mainly on the Louisiana circuit traveling between the Fair Grounds and Louisiana Downs. Leggio trained Happy Ticket, winner of the Ballerina at Saratoga, as well as millionaire earner Candid Glen.

Dede McGehee

Owner

McGehee grew up in Jacksonville, Florida where she used to fish and ski on the St. John’s River, which is where the Kentucky Oaks contender got her name. McGehee operates a breeding farm named Heaven Trees Farm which was the early home of Grade 1 winner Panty Raid and the place where McGehee foaled and raised Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra. McGehee also owned and bred stakes winner Atlanta Highway and this is her first starter in the Kentucky Oaks.
