In 2001, he was inducted into the U.S. racing Hall of Fame and has had numerous graded stakes winners and champions. Some of Mandella’s finest horses included 1993 Horse of the Year Kotashaan, Dubai World Cup Winner Pleasantly Perfect, Rock Hard Ten, and Gentlemen.

Bernardini--Layreebelle, by A.P. Indy
Spellbound is by champion and classic-winning sire Bernardini out of the unraced Tale of the Cat mare Layreebelle.
Bernardini captured all but two of his eight races on track, including the Preakness Stakes, Grade 1 Travers and Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup. He retired to stud after a close second in the 2006 Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Bernardini’s progeny have continued the Grade 1-winning tradition and includes Stay Thirsty, Alpha and To Honor and Serve.
Layreebelle is a daughter of Grade 3 victress Voodoo Lily, making her a half-sister to Grade 1-placed Magical Illusion, Grade 2-placed Lily O’Gold and dual Grade 3-placed Shah Jehan.
Voodoo Lily is herself a half-sibling to Grade 3-placed stakes winner Gizmo’s Fortune, and this female line is also responsible for Grade 3 scorer Mr. Livingston.
