Stopchargingmaria is by Grade 2-winning sprinter Tale of the Cat, who proved just as adept running in routes as he did in sprints.
The dark bay stallion didn’t begin his racing career until the spring of his three-year-old season, taking his first two starts at distances of a mile-and-70-yards and 1 1/16 miles by wide margins. He followed up with a fourth in the nine-furlong Haskell Invitational before cutting back to seven furlongs for a win in the King’s Bishop.
Tale of the Cat would go on to be third in two editions of the seven-furlong Vosburgh while running second in the 1 1/8-mile Whitney Handicap.
The Kentucky-bred found even more success as a sire, with his top offspring being three-time champion, $6.1 million earner and multiple Grade 1 conqueror Gio Ponti
Tale of the Cat is also responsible for 2013 champion two-year-old filly She’s a Tiger, who hasn’t been in any hurry to begin her sophomore campaign this season, as well as productive Grade 1-winning stallion Lion Heart, who ran second in the 2004 Kentucky Derby.
Stopchargingmaria’s dam is the Montbrook mare Exotic Bloom, who captured a pair of stakes while placing in a Canadian Grade 3 during her time on track.
Stopchargingmaria’s female family includes Grade 1 winner Hatchet Man, Grade 2 victor Stop the Music and classic-placed Grade 2 hero Vision and Verse, all of whom were successful sires.
Others of note in this female line are champion two-year-old filly Yanks Music, Canadian champion Ginger Brew and multiple Grade 2 king Bourbon Bay.
