SOUTH (Arkansas, Louisiana) / INGLORIOUS FAVORED IN FAIR GROUNDS OAKS AS KATHMANBLU PASSES – Carl Moore Management LLC’s Inglorious made an unexpected transition from major contender to morning line favorite for Saturday’s$500,000 Fair Grounds Oaks (Grade II) when the connections of Kathmanbludecided to pass on the New Orleans race in favor of Keeneland’s Grade I Central Bank Ashland Stakes for her final prep for the $1 million Kentucky Oaks (GI).

The Josie Carroll-trained daughter of Hennessy, beaten only 1 ½ lengths in her debut over traditional dirt as runner-up to Kathmanblu in the Rachel Alexandra (GIII), is now the 3-1 choice for Saturday’s 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-old fillies. Chantal Sutherland will ride Inglorious, who drew the outside post a field of 10 when entries were taken on Sunday at Fair Grounds.

Trainer Ken McPeek made a late change in plans in the Ashland option for Kathmanblu, the 7-2 favorite in Churchill Downs’ Kentucky Oaks Future Wager.  The Ashland will be run over Keeneland’s synthetic Polytrack surface on April 9.

“She hasn’t run in a Grade I, she hasn’t won a Grade I,” McPeek told Bob Fortus of the New Orleans Times-Picayune

“We (dragged) it out, admittedly, but we decided to run in the Ashland.”

EAST (Maryland, New Jersey, New York) / QUANTUM MISS HANGS ON TO TAKE CICADA, – Favored Quantum Miss, fifth as the favorite in the recent Old Hat (GIII) at Gulftream Park, made amends for that disappointing effort with a front-running victory in Saturday’s  $100,000 Cicada (GIII)  at New York’s Aqueduct.

Daniel Ryan’s homebred daughter of Smoke Glacken dueled with Roman Treasure in the early stages of the six-furlong Cicada, drew away from that rival at the top of the stretch and held the late-running Coax Liberty safe to win by a half-length. Jockey Cornelio Velaquez was aboard as Quantum Miss covered the distance in 1:11.99.

“I was very impressed,” trainer Tony Dutrow said.  “Her performance kind of confirms what we though all along: she’s a six-furlong filly.”

Quantum Miss will focus on sprints, with Belmont Park’s six-furlong Prioress (GI) on July 4 set as a near-term goal.

Previously unbeaten Dream finished third, and the well-regarded In Step was fifth in the field of seven 3-year-old fillies.

WEST (Arizona, California, New Mexico) – MILDLY OFFENSIVE PERFECT AFTER SANTA PAULA ROMP – Warren Williamson’s Mildly Offensive remained unbeaten in her young career when the 1-2 favorite splashed to a comfortable  4 1/4-length victory over Hout Bay in Sunday’s $100,000 Santa Paula Stakes at soggy Santa Anita.

Jockey Rafael Bejarano was in the irons for trainer Carla Gaines as the daughter of Sharp Humor covered 6 ½ furlongs over a sloppy track in 1:15.70.  She won by an identical margin in her Feb. 19 Santa Anita début, covering six furlongs in 1:08.25.

"We’ve always thought a lot of her and she ran to our expectations today,” Gaines said.

Mildly Offensive closed at odds of 51-1 in March 11-13 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool.
