In Lingerie silky smooth in Bourbonette Oaks
After showing some minor antics while being loaded into the starting gate for Saturday's Grade 3, $100,000 Bourbonette Oaks at Turfway Park, the Todd Pletcher-trained In Lingerie lulled her rivals to sleep en route to an easy six-length win in the one-mile Polytrack test. Sent to the front by John Velazquez, In Lingerie set tepid splits of :25 1/5, :49 and 1:13 4/5, and then opened up on the field in the final quarter-mile to finish up the distance in 1:38 1/5. She returned $3.60, $2.60 and $2.20 as the 4-5 favorite.
Dancing Solo, the 6-1 third choice, finished a clear second by 5 1/2 lengths to give Pletcher-trained runners the exacta. A length back in second after a quarter-mile, Dancing Solo, dropped back to fourth down the backside before re-rallying around the far turn. She proved no match for the winner when called upon for her bid.
Third in the Bourbonette Oaks was Toxis, who was followed under the wire by Bourbonstreetgirl, Dixie Jackpot, Bourbonesque, More Than Love and Original Kitten. Venetian Sonata was scratched.
A debut winner by 6 1/4 lengths for owner Warren Lyster and trainer Stephen Lyster at Turfway Park on January 14, In Lingerie was privately purchased by Gary Barber and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners prior to her next start, a Gulfstream Park allowance on February 25. In Lingerie showed some pre-race jitters in the gate as the 8-5 favorite, and ultimately settled for second, 4 1/2 lengths behind the aptly-named Zo Impressive. After this front-running tally, the bay has career earnings of $82,265.
In Lingerie, a daughter of Empire Maker out of the Grade 2-winning Cat Chat, counts as her second dam the 1993 champion juvenile filly Phone Chatter. Other descendants of Phone Chatter include Grade 1 winner Dixie Chatter and the stakes-winning filly Rumor, who captured the Kalookan Queen Handicap at Santa Anita on New Year's Day.
