John C. Oxley's Madly Truly (Malibu Moon) was sent off the 5-2 choice in Saturday's $151,523 Mazarine (Can-G3) at Woodbine despite a fourth-place run in the Natalma (Can-G3) last out and vindicated those odds with a one-length victory under jockey Patrick Husbands.

The Mark Casse trainee earned 10 points in the Road to the Kentucky Oaks series when completing 1 1/16 Polytrack miles in 1:44 4/5.

Madly Truly finished fourth in her career debut at Churchill Downs in June before returning a month later to break her maiden by 4 1/4 lengths at Woodbine. She stayed on the Polytrack for a third-place effort in the Ontario Debutante before trying the turf in the Natalma last out.

"Last time we had three horses in the race and swinging for home all three were together and I was in the middle," Husbands recalled about the Natalma. "I was waiting on Luis (Contreras) to go (aboard Spring Likeacobra), but Luis would not go. He was riding his own race and (Gary) Boulanger was inside me (on Appreciating). I kept waiting and waiting and they got away from me down the lane and (Madly Truly) just got beat a length. I told Mark Casse's assistant that she was much the best and it was unfortunate how the race unfolded."

The bay juvenile filly has now tallied a 2-0-1 mark from five starts and has earned $145,040 lifetime.
