Survivorship: Since December 12, 2008
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in December/2008. Knowing that breast cancer runs in the family I was not surprised to find out that I too had it. Still I was shocked when I heard the words "You have Cancer". I immediately read everything there is about breast cancer and ask friends and friends of friends who had gone through breast cancer for guidance. I had a masectomy in December/2008 and realized how cancer affected not only me but all those around me, like my co wokers, friends, immediate and extended family. I made it an issue to talk to all people I know to become more aware of breast cancer. and decided to communicate it to the hispanics in our area. (I am Hispanic). As soon as I got better I contacted the local support groups in Louisville like the American Cancer Society, Friends for life, Gilda's Club offering my service to work as volunteer making other hispanics aware that there is help, hope and other survivors to assist and be there for them. No one should have to go through Breast cancer alone. We are one big family. I would like to be in the survivor parade. and walk with all my sisters.
