Alison, the love of my life and wife of over 8 years has been such a blessing to me and our family. We have 3 great kids, 2 girls (ages 4&6) and 1 boy (2) who love their mommy so much. We have the kind of life that most people would dream of, great friends/family, a home in the horse capital of the world, Alison owns her own business as well as both having successful careers, Alison being an Occupational Therapist in her company. In September 2009 however, Alison felt a lumpy area of her breast and after a visit to the doctor, she was referred for a mammogram. The mammogram was inconclusive and she had to go for an ultrasound guided MRI and biopsy. Once we got the call, we were devastated. Luckily, it was DCIS but a double mastectomy was recommended to the size of the DCIS. After the mammogram, we learned that it was actually Stage I IDC, so we followed up with a round of chemotherapy. Alison didn't react well and had every side affect in the book so she had to stop the chemo, but we are confident that the cancer was removed during the mastectomy (all lymph nodes were clear!).
Alison is back to resuming her busy life of being a mother, wife, business owner, OT and is currently in training for long distance running later this year (possibly a marathon!). We are so glad to have her back and actually have appreciated these difficult times that have allowed us to put our life into perspective and realize how lucky we are to have great friends/family and a strong faith in God. Looking forward to many more years of celebrating life. Cancer Sucks but God is Good!
