Recap

Tepin wore down 5-2 favorite Bahnah in the stretch to claim the victory in Saturday's Grade 3, $500,000 Delta Downs Princess for two-year-old fillies.

Tracking in fourth under Miguel Mena as Zip On led through fractions of :22 4/5 and :47 2/5, Tepin held her position as Bahnah seized control from that one around the far turn. Given her cue by Mena after Bahnah passed the six-furlong marker in 1:12 2/5, Tepin eventually proved best with a winning stretch bid.

Passing the wire 1 1/4 lengths ahead in a time of 1:38 4/5 for a mile on a fast track, Tepin paid $9, $5 and $3 as the 7-2 fourth choice in a field of seven.

Bahnah was 5 1/4 lengths clear of Concave for second, with Synapse 2 1/4 lengths behind in fourth. Miss Behaviour, Zip On, and Appreciating completed the order of finish.

Tepin races for Robert Masterson and is trained by Mark Casse.

Fourth in her September 7 debut at Churchill Downs, Tepin rebounded to win by 3 1/4 lengths going seven furlongs at Keeneland the following month. She preceded this win with a third in the $62,000 Rags to Riches, a one-mile overnight stakes at Churchill, on October 27. She now has earnings of $342,084.

Produced by the unraced Stravinsky mare Life Happened, Tepin is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Vyjack, who captured the Jerome and Gotham at Aqueduct last winter, and a full sister to Grade 2-placed Prime Cut.

This extended family has also produced 1997 sprint champion Smoke Glacken, Grade 2 winners Miss Slewpy, Smokey Glacken, and Crown of Thorns, and multiple Grade 3 victor Disco Rico.

Tepin was bred in Kentucky by Machmer Hall and sold for $140,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale.
