Dare to Care Food Bank leads our community to feed the hungry and conquer the cycle of need. We fulfill this mission through innovative programs and by partnering with over 300 local agencies to distribute food to those in our community who need it most. From our Kids Cafes, which provide nourishing meals and activities for children after school, to our Mobile Pantries, which provide food for those without access to a traditional food pantry, Dare to Care is the leader in addressing the hunger needs in our area.
Taste of Derby raises funds for Louisville charity Dare to Care Food Bank. Dare to Care also reclaims excess prepared, packaged and perishable foods after Taste of Derby to distribute to local shelters. To date, The Churchill Downs Incorporated Foundation has contributed more than $300,000 to hunger relief organizations locally and around the country.
In addition to Dare to Care Food Bank, Taste of Derby has a long-standing partnership with The Sullivan University National Center for Hospitality Studies Culinary Arts program, where students have assisted with the Taste of Derby event since 2010. The university not only opens its kitchens to Taste of Derby's visiting chefs, but their students gain valuable experience by assisting in the event and the opportunity to receive scholarships through the Taste of Derby Scholarship Fund and The Creekstone Farms Chef Showdown.
