Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Oaks, Derby Week & Spring Racing 2020 Ticket Information

The 146th Kentucky Derby will be rescheduled from May 2, 2020 to September 5, 2020, and the 146th Kentucky Oaks will be rescheduled from May 1, 2020 to September 4, 2020. 

Derby Week rescheduled dates are Tuesday April 28, 2020 moving to September 1, 2020; Wednesday April 29, 2020 moving to September 2, 2020; and Thursday April 30, 2020 moving to September 3, 2020. Saturday, April 25 has been rescheduled to Saturday September 19, 2020.

Dawn at the Downs new dates are the Tuesday April 28, 2020 Dawn at the Downs event moving to Sunday August 30, 2020; the Wednesday April 29, 2020 Dawn at the Downs event moving to Monday August 31, 2020.

Churchill Downs Racetrack will race without spectators during the 2020 spring meet for the months of May and June. Individual ticket holders who purchased tickets for May and June race dates through the Churchill Downs Sales department or Ticketmaster.com will have their tickets refunded and will receive a credit applied to their original method of payment within 30 to 45 days of the scheduled live race date. For group buyers, your sales representative will be in contact with you to discuss options.

Your Kentucky Oaks, Kentucky Derby, and Derby Week tickets purchased for the originally scheduled dates are automatically valid for the new race dates. You may arrive on the new dates in September with your printed ticket or mobile ticket to be scanned for entry at the gates.

If you have purchased a ticket and are not able to attend the newly scheduled race dates, there are a couple options:

  • Post your tickets for resale through the Kentucky Derby Ticket Exchange marketplace.  Visit KentuckyDerby.com/resale for more information.
  • Request a refund through the appropriate below listed purchase method by July 17th.  Note this refund request period has been extended from the original April 24th deadline.
  • If you purchased “single day” general admission, reserved seating or dining tickets from Ticketmaster.com, visit Ticketmaster.com and log into your account.  Select My Tickets and request a refund for the single day purchase.
  • If you purchased resale tickets through the Ticket Exchange Resale Marketplace, which includes Verified Resale Tickets on Ticketmaster.com, please contact Ticketmaster Customer Service at 800-653-8000 for assistance.

    • Customers should contact the vendor or visit the vendor’s website for information from their point of purchase provider on refund and credit options.
  • I purchased a two day ticket package.  May I refund just one day?
    • No. Two day package tickets are specially priced. One day may not be refunded.
  • I purchased a full box or dining table.  May I refund a couple of tickets?
    • No.  These seats are specially priced.  If you purchased a full box or dining table, you may not refund a portion of the tickets and keep the remaining. 
  • I resold my tickets on the Resale Marketplace.  May I still request a refund for these resold tickets? 
    • No.  If you have resold your tickets, you are no longer the owner of the resold tickets.
  • I resold a couple of my tickets on the Resale Marketplace.  May I request a refund for the remaining tickets? 
    • No.  Partial orders are not eligible for refunds as two day packages, full box and dining tables are specially priced.   
  • I transferred my tickets to a friend.  May I request a refund for these transferred tickets? 
    • In order to request a refund for your transferred tickets, the current owner of the tickets will need to forward the tickets back to your original ticket purchase account.  The original purchaser of the tickets may then submit a request to refund the entire order in full for all seat locations.  
  • I transferred my tickets to a friend.  May I request a refund on the tickets that I did not transferred? 
    • No.  Partial orders are not eligible for refunds as two day packages, full box and dining tables are specially priced.   
  • I received transferred tickets from my friend.  May I request a refund for these transferred tickets received? 
    • No.  Transferred tickets do not possess a dollar value as the original purchaser of the ticket has submitted full payment.  
    • If you are unable to attend the new dates or transfer your tickets to a friend, you may forward your tickets back to the original owner.
  • How long will it take to receive a response to my online refund request?
    • Response times are based on the volume of requests submitted and may take several weeks.  We thank you in advance for your patience as we take the time to investigate each request to ensure guest satisfaction. 
  • If approved, how long will it take to receive a refund on my credit card?
    • For tickets purchased from Churchill Downs Racetrack, customers with approved refund requests will be notified by email.  Upon refund request approval, a credit posting to your credit card statement timeline will vary based on your credit card’s financial institution.  The credit may appear on your statement as variation of Churchill Downs TM or Ticketmaster.
  • I have Derby Week tickets and would like to exchange for a different race day.

  • I pre-purchased valet parking for a live race date in May or June.  With the races being run without spectators, how will I receive my refund? 
    • Individual ticket holders who pre-purchased valet parking for May or June race dates through the Churchill Downs Sales department or Ticketmaster.com will have their valet parking tickets automatically refunded and will receive a credit applied to their original method of payment within 30 to 45 days post scheduled race date. 
  • With May and June live racing being run without spectators, do I need to fill out an online form to request my refund? 
    • No.  Since the May and June spectator ticketed events are cancelled, all single ticket buyers with ticket purchases through the Churchill Downs Sales department and Ticketmaster.com will be automatically refunded.
  • I have a season box plan, season suite plan, or Turf Club membership.  With May and June live racing being run without spectators, will I receive a refund or account credit?

  • I purchased tickets from Derby Experiences.  Who should I contact for more information? 
  • Will Dawn at the Downs be rescheduled? 
    • Yes, Dawn at the Downs will be rescheduled to align with the new dates for Derby Week. 
    • Dawn at the Downs new dates are the Tuesday April 28, 2020 Dawn at the Downs event moving to Sunday August 30, 2020; the Wednesday April 29, 2020 Dawn at the Downs event moving to Monday August 31, 2020.
  • Will there be free admission for the Dawn at the Downs events?
    • At this time, we anticipate that only customers with purchased reserved dining tickets will be permitted to enter the facility during the Dawn at the Downs events.
  • Will Taste of Derby be rescheduled? 
    • We anticipate that Taste of Derby will be rescheduled to align with the new dates for the Kentucky Derby. Exact date to be determined.
  • I purchased infield general admission tickets for KY Derby or Oaks.  Will I be able to visit the Paddock area of the facility?
    • No.  General admission tickets will only have access to the venue’s infield area.  There is no access to the Paddock or “front side” areas of the facility.
  • I purchased infield general admission tickets for KY Derby or Oaks.  Can I scan my ticket at any gate to enter the facility?
    • No.  General admission tickets must enter the facility through the Infield Gate located at Central Avenue and 4th Street.
    • If a guest attempts to scan their general admission ticket at a non-Infield Gate location, the turnstiles will reject the ticket and the guest will be redirected to enter through the Infield Gate.
  • Is there a capacity to the number of infield general admission tickets?
    • Yes, the infield does have a capacity.
    • It is highly recommended to purchase your tickets in advance before general admission tickets sell out.
    • Once standard general admission tickets sell out, patrons will need to purchase Verified Resale Tickets on Ticketmaster.com.
  • Can I purchase infield general admission or other ticket options at the Ticket Office on KY Derby or Oaks day?
    • No.  There will be no ticket sales onsite at the facility or Ticket Office.

  • After the Ticket Office has closed and tickets are no longer available online for purchase, will there be free general admission entry into the facility?
    • No.  All guests entering the facility must possess a valid ticket for entry from the time gates open until gates close for the live race or simulcast event date.
  • Is the Ticket Office open on live race dates?
    • Yes, the Paddock Gate Ticket Office is open on all live race days for ticket resolution only.
    • The Infield Gate Ticket Office is only open for ticket resolution on KY Derby and Oaks live racing days.

  • My cellular device does not support a mobile ticket.  How do I enter the facility?
    • Customers may forward their tickets to other members in their party who possess a cellular device capable of supporting mobile tickets.
    • Additional options may be available by contacting your Churchill Downs Sales representative.
  • What are the best practices for scanning your mobile device at the turnstile for entry?
    • In order to enter the facility, you must display the QR code (barcode) for your ticket on your mobile device.
    • Have your mobile device out and QR code ready as you approach the gates for entry.
    • Insert your mobile device, QR code up, under the barcode reader that sits atop the turnstile.
    • The turnstile reader will light up green for approved entry.  Then walk forward through the turnstile arms.
    • Due to limited cellular provider coverage, it is best to download your mobile ticket to your device’s wallet the week of the event.
  • What if all the tickets for my party are on my mobile device.  How do we all scan in at the turnstile for entry?
    • There are several options for scanning in mobile tickets for an entire party.
    • Option 2: Everyone enter the gates together as a group.  The party member with the tickets on a mobile device stands at the turnstile and scans a new QR code for each member as they pass through the turnstile.
    • Option 3: If you are already inside the facility and your guest arrive later, you may visit them at the gate and scan a new QR code from your mobile device to allow your friends to enter.  Remember not to leave the facility as there is no re-entry. 
    • Note that screen shots of tickets and QR codes are not recommended methods of distribution and may not be validated by the turnstiles.
  • Will I need my mobile ticket to receive a secondary access wristband?
    • Yes.  As you visit the correct secondary access location, the attendant will ask that you scan your ticket’s QR code from your mobile device.
    • Upon validation, the attendant will provide a secondary wristband.
    • Seating locations that require a secondary wristband will be valid to scan once at the entry gates and once at the secondary validation location.
    • Due to limited cellular provider coverage, it is best to download your mobile ticket to your device’s wallet the week of the event.
  • With no commemorative hard printed tickets, is there another method to receive a souvenir ticket from this year’s KY Derby or Oaks?
    • Yes.  The week following the KY Derby and Oaks, Churchill Downs will send a souvenir ticket email to all ticket holders.
    • This email will include a link with the option to purchase a souvenir ticket from WWL (Weldon, Williams & Lick).
    • Souvenir tickets are $15.00 each, are NOT customizable, and will ship from WWL this Fall post race via USPS.
    • Souvenir tickets will be available for a limited time while supplies last, and are not valid for entry into the facility.
  • I purchased the commemorative ticket option for my KY Derby and Oaks 2-day plan on Ticketmaster.com.  Will I still receive commemorative tickets?
    • No.  All tickets for the KY Derby and Oaks are mobile tickets.  No hard tickets will be printed or mailed from the Ticket Office.
    • The Ticket Office is working with Ticketmaster Customer Service to refund the commemorative ticket per order fee prior to the live race date.
  • Upon entering the facility, how will I receive my racing program?
    • On all live race days, including KY Derby and Oaks, guests will pick up a program from a program kiosk located just inside the entry gates to the venue.
    • Programs are available for pick up the day of the live race starting when gates open to the public, and are available while supplies last. 
  • Will I receive a hang tag parking pass for any onsite parking purchased for a Derby Week live racing date?
    • No hard hang tag passes will be printed or mailed from the Ticket Office.
    • All Derby Week onsite parking passes will be mobile tickets.  
  • Will I receive a hang tag parking pass for any onsite parking purchased for KY Derby or Oaks?
    • Yes.  Hard hang tag passes will be mailed from the Ticket Office.
    • At the current time, there will be no mobile tickets for KY Derby or Oaks onsite parking purchased. 
  • Will I receive a hang tag parking pass for my KY Expo Center parking on KY Derby or Oaks day?
    • No hard hang tag passes will be printed or mailed from the Ticket Office.
    • All KY Expo Center parking passes will be mobile tickets.  
  • Can I forward my KY Expo Center or Derby Week onsite parking passes?
    • Yes.  These mobile parking passes act just like mobile tickets.
    • Reminder that parking passes are scanned upon car entry into the parking lot and are valid for only one entry scan.  
    • If arriving in separate cars, a mobile parking pass may not be scanned multiple times for entry for each member in your party.  
    • Parking passes are not eligible for entry into the venue and not eligible for resale posting.

    • Yes, these hard printed tickets purchased for the originally scheduled dates and mailed by Ticketmaster Customer Service are automatically valid for the new race dates.
    • When you arrive on the new dates in September, provide your hard ticket to be scanned for entry at the gates.
  • Will my parking passes for Derby, Oaks and Derby Week still scan for entry into the parking lots? 
    • Yes, your mobile parking tickets, and if applicable hang tags, purchased for the originally scheduled dates are automatically valid for the new race dates.
  • I ordered commemorative Derby tickets and would like to use these tickets to scan for entry at the gates. When will those tickets be shipping to me? 
    • All tickets for the KY Derby and Oaks are now mobile tickets.  No hard or commemorative tickets will be printed or mailed from the Ticket Office.
    • Customers who purchased the commemorative ticket option on Ticketmaster.com for their 2-day package will have their order fee refunded by Ticketmaster Customer Service prior to the live race date.
  • I have mobile tickets, and also ordered souvenir Derby tickets.  When will the souvenir tickets be shipping to me? 
    • Souvenir tickets are printed and fulfilled after the Derby by WWL.
    • Once a new shipping date is provided, an email will be sent directly to souvenir ticket purchasers.  Current estimated ship date is early November 2020.  
    • Reminder that souvenir tickets are not valid for entry and do not ship until post Derby.
  • I ordered Derby Week tickets and would like to use these tickets to scan for entry at the gates.  When will those tickets be shipping to me? 
    • All tickets purchased directly from Churchill Downs are now mobile tickets.

  • I ordered Derby Week tickets from Ticketmaster.com and was able to select a mail delivery option.  Will those tickets be shipping to me? 
    • At the current time, Ticketmaster Customer Service is still offering USPS mail options on Derby Week tickets for Ticketmaster.com purchases.
    • These tickets are printed and mailed by Ticketmaster Customer Service, not the Churchill Downs Ticket Office.
  • I posted my tickets for resale prior to the postponed date announcement. Do I need to repost my tickets for resale? 
    • Yes.  If your tickets have not yet sold on resale and you would still like to sell your tickets, you will need to repost your ticket listing.
  • I sold my tickets on the resale market prior to the postponed date announcement. What do I now need to do with my resale tickets? 
    • If you resold your tickets through the Kentucky Derby Ticket Exchange by posting through My Churchill Downs Account Manager or Ticketmaster.com, you do not need to take further action.  Ownership of the tickets now belongs to the resale customer who will receive a mobile ticket for gate entry on the new racing dates.
    • If you resold your tickets through another method, contact that vendor for next steps on your resale order.
  • I purchased resale tickets prior to the postponed date announcement.  What should I do about receiving my tickets? 
    • If you purchased your resale tickets through the Kentucky Derby Ticket Exchange or Ticketmaster.com, you do not need to take further action.  You will receive a mobile ticket for gate entry for the new racing dates.
    • If you purchased your tickets through another method, contact that vendor for next steps on your resale order.

    • There could be several reasons as to why you are unable to log in.
    • You must use the primary email address on your account as your username (not your account number or secondary email address on file). 
    • If you do not know your password, click on “Forgot your password?” to have a temporary password emailed to you. If your temporary password does not work, your account may be locked due to inactivity or too many invalid password attempts.
    • Your password could be expired or account locked.
    • If you are attempting to sign in with a Ticketmaster.com email address, select the “Forgot your password?” option and enter your Ticketmaster.com email address. If the email address is unrecognized, email to onlinetickets@kyderby.com to retrieve your primary account email address.

  • I’m having trouble getting signed into the Churchill Downs Racetrack app.  Where can I receive help?
    • There could be several reasons as to why you are unable to log in.
    • You must use the primary email address on your account as your username (not your account number or secondary email address on file). 
    • If you have a temporary password, you must first sign into the desktop version of My Churchill Downs Account Manager website to establish an password for security purposes.
    • Ensure you are using the most up to date version of the app.  Check your mobile device for app updates.  If this is not an option, you may always delete the app and re-download to ensure you have the most up to date version.

  • I’m having trouble viewing my tickets on the Churchill Downs Racetrack app.
    • There could be several reasons as to why you are unable to view tickets.
    • Ensure you are using the most up to date version of the app.  Check your mobile device for app updates.  If this is not an option, you may always delete the app and re-download to ensure you have the most up to date version.
    • You must use the primary email address on your account as your username (not your account number or secondary email address on file). 
    • Did you purchase tickets from Ticketmaster.com and you need to link the two accounts within the app.
    • Did you purchase single day tickets on Ticketmaster.com and need to use the Ticketmaster app.
  • I purchased a 2-day KY Derby and Oaks ticket package on Ticketmaster.com but do not see my tickets listed for mobile ticket management on the Ticketmaster app.
    • All 2-day KY Derby and Oaks packaged tickets must be managed through the Churchill Downs Racetrack app.
  • I’m unable to forward my tickets or post for resale in My Churchill Downs Account Manager.  
    • There could be several reasons as to why you are unable to manage your tickets.  
    • Tickets must have a barcode assigned to be forwarded or posted for resale.  Simply view the ticket on your mobile device to establish a barcode.  Then you will be able to forward or post for resale.
    • The ticket has not yet been paid in full.
    • The event or type of ticket is not eligible for ticket forwarding or posting for resale.
    • There may be a view barcode or forward delay on the event.  If so, the event will display a release date.
