SIR JOSEPH was first to show but within 200 yards MASTERPIECE was out front and remained there until after three-quarters when he fell back rapidly. BEN ALI, forwardly placed from the outset, was shaken up by rider Duffy at the eighth pole and he pulled away for a half length win over BLUE WING which took the lead briefly in the stretch but lost his chances when he swerved. FREE KNIGHT led at the top of the stretch, having replaced HARRODSBURG. LIJERO finished with fine speed. Five different horses led at one time.
