Anneau d’Or Contender Profile
An impressive debut winner over the synthetic Tapeta track at Golden Gate Fields, Anneau d’Or was a 28-1 shot when switching surfaces and stepping up in class for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1). Bettors expected the Blaine Wright-trained colt to run up the track, but instead, he rallied boldly after a wide trip to fall just a head short of catching fellow longshot Storm the Court.
From a pedigree perspective, Anneau d’Or is bred top and bottom to relish classic distances. His sire, Medaglia d’Oro, is a renowned source of high-class stamina, while Anneau d’Or’s dam—Walk Close—was a Grade 3 winner over 1 3/16 miles. Walk Close, in turn, is a daughter of Tapit, who has sired three winners of the 1 ½-mile Belmont Stakes (G1). If his pedigree and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile performance are any indication, Anneau d’Or will be a factor on the first Saturday in May.
