Green Light Go Contender Profile
Although Green Light Go was no match for Tiz the Law in the Champagne Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park, the Jimmy Jerkens-trained colt ran a game race in defeat, holding on to finish second after carving out a steady pace.
It’s easy to assume from this speed-and-tire performance that Green Light Go might be best as a sprinter. Certainly he was impressive when beating Scabbard by 3 ¾ lengths in the 6 ½-furlong Saratoga Special Stakes (G2), but as a son of 2007 Kentucky Derby (G1) runner-up Hard Spun out of a mare by 2003 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Pleasantly Perfect, Green Light Go has the pedigree to succeed running at least a mile.
