Horse Profile - Holywood Star
Born February 10th, 2015, Hollywood Star is out of Hollywood Story and sired by Malibu Moon. He was bred by George Krikorian and sold to the Allbaugh Family Stable for $500,000 with credit to his strong bloodline. Trainer Dale Romans has been enlisted to train the young colt.
Hollywood Star wasted little time in breaking his maiden, doing so in his debut in a 2017 maiden special weight race at Churchill Downs in late June. He would carry his miaden race momentum into the 2017 Saratoga Special later in the summer for his stakes debut.
Starting slow out of the gate, Hollywood Star sat well behind the pace despite strong 9/2 odds to compete. This race was more or less focused on 8/5 favorite Barry Lee and 7/2 second choice Copper Bullet. The latter two helped set the pace early on in the 6 ½ furlong contest.
During the turn, Hollywood Star showed his class, roaring to catch the front running horses and thundered into third with just a few lengths remaining. Copper Bullet had moved to the lead and was able to hold on to win. The effort was an impressive showing by Hollywood Star. The colt clearly showing that he had plenty left to offer if the race was longer.
Pointing next to the 2017 Iroquois Stakes, Hollywood Star once again started late but was a clear threat over a distance of 1 1/16th miles. He made his break early as the field rounded in to the final turn, but was unable to catch The Tabulator who barely edged him at the wire. The Dale Romans trainee was a 6/5 favorite.
So far, Hollywood Star has shown that he is purely designed to go for longer distances but is showing well early on as a potential contender for the 2017 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the 2018 Kentucky Derby. He has earned $96,500 off of three starts with a record of 1-2-0, with plenty more to come.
