True Timber Racing News
A series of good runs on the New York 3-year-old circuit earned True Timber a spot on the Road to the Kentucky Derby leaderboard.
After winning a maiden special weight at his second start, True Timber was sent into the New York Derby prep races by trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. He finished a distant third to El Areeb in the Jerome Stakes (G3), was closer when second in the Withers Stakes (G3), and then ran fifth to J Boys Echo in the Gotham Stakes (G3) after taking on El Areeb in the lead.
Bred by Mr. & Mrs. Marc C. Ferrell, True Timber was a $170,000 weanling buy for Calumet Farm in the 2014 Keeneland November sale. He is by the quality Lane’s End sire Mineshaft, a dual grade I winner at 1-1/4 miles whose progeny include Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) runner-up Effinex. True Timber’s dam Queen’s Wood is a granddaughter of La Trinite, whose progeny include French champion 2-year-old filly Regal State, the dam of 2003 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Pleasantly Perfect.
True Timber has run from in front, up on the speed, and in behind the pace in his five races to date. His pedigree suggests he might be able to stay 1-1/4 miles.
True Timber hasn’t featured as an individual entry in the Kentucky Derby Future Pool Wager to date. He is likely to give punters a great return if he gets into the Derby field.
