Flavien Prat was born in France and began his racing career in 2009. Based out of Southern California, Prat is rising up the rankings and is one of the future stars of the sport. He has also competed in Europe.
Beginning in 2015, Prat committed to American Thoroughbred horse racing and began to generate impressive results almost immediately. His first graded stakes victory was the 2015 Precisionist Stakes aboard Catch a Flight. He also won the American Stakes with Bal a Bali and the Bing Crosby Stakes with Wild Dude that very same year. In total, he would gross $5,247,773 in career earnings during the 2015 campaign and that has led to greater interest from bigger connections.
The 2016 season was by far his biggest and has further established him as a force to be reckoned with. He began the year with a win in the Las Cienegas Stakes with Dreamologist and would go on to win a total of 16 graded stakes races. His biggest victories included the Northern Dancer Turf Stakes with The Pizza Man and the LaBrea Stakes aboard Constellation.
Prat would end his best year with a win in the 2016 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint with Irish-born horse Obviously. With his star never burning as brightly, he would also collect two third place finishes in the World Championships. He rode Avenge in the 2016 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf and Cavale Dorre in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.
Despite competing seriously for just two seasons, he has already grossed over $20 million in career earnings. Prat is certainly one to watch in the coming years as he continues to compete with the best this sport has to offer.
