Victor Espinoza

Very few riders can claim to have enjoyed the two-year run that Espinoza just had. In back-to-back campaigns, Espinoza was the choice rider for both Calfornia Chrome and American Pharoah, and is the only active jockey that is a Triple Crown winner. Originally from Mexico, Espinoza made his move to the United States in 1990 without even knowing how to speak English. It took nearly ten years before Espinoza would earn his breakout victory aboard Spain at the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (2000). Two years later, he would ride Triple Crown hopeful War Emblam to wins at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes before repeating that feat with California Chrome in 2014. He is one of the most famous jockeys in the world, having won the ESPY Award for Best Jockey in 2002, 2014 and 2015. Noted for his charity work with the City of Hope, Espinoza donated his entire earnings from his Belmont Stakes victory aboard American Pharoah to that very charity. Other top mounts include Peace Rules, Behaving Badly, Congaree, Delcan’s Moon, The Tin Man, Bob and John, Secret Circle and Take Charge Brandi. Most recently he won the $10-million Dubai World Cup aboard California Chrome.
