Stakes winner and multiple Grade 3-placed UH OH BANGO (Top Hit) is no longer on the Kentucky Derby (G1) trail, trainer Kory Owens said Tuesday. The Arizona-bred colt exited Saturday's fourth-place effort in the Arkansas Derby (G1) with a fractured left front cannon bone and will be sidelined for four-to-six months.
"He cooled out okay after the race, but the next day, we could tell something was not really right," Owens told Daily Racing Form. "He'll have a screw put in it. He should be out four-to-six months."
Based at Turf Paradise, Uh Oh Bango had been 21st on the graded earnings list, only one spot away from a potential Kentucky Derby bid with his $237,952 bankroll. He'll have surgery this week at a Oklahoma facility.
