Judy Hicks and Kathryn Nikkel's homebred LILACS AND LACE (Flower Alley) pulled off a minor upset of 1-2 favorite Cathy's Crunches (West Acre) in Saturday's $92,000 California Oaks at Golden Gate Fields, overtaking the pacesetter in the final yards to score by 1 1/2 lengths under Russell Baze.

The Duane Offield trainee covered 1 1/16 miles on the Tapeta in 1:46 1/5.

A maiden winner in her fourth start in October, Lilacs and Lace preceded this win with a mere half-length loss to Cathy's Crunches in the Corte Madera S. on December 4.

In addition to improving her line to 6-2-2-0, $95,550, Lilacs and Lace is now eligible for a $2.2 million bonus if she goes on to win the March 5 Santa Anita Oaks (G1), April 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) and May 20 Black-Eyed Susan S. (G2) at Pimlico.
