Count Fleet S runner-up J J'S LUCKY TRAIN (Silver Train) and unbeaten RESCIND THE TRADE (Put It Back) are top draws in Saturday's $100,000 Whirlaway S. A prep for Aqueduct's premiere event for three-year-olds, the $750,000 Wood Memorial (G1) on April 9, the Whirlaway will feature a field of seven runners over 1 1/16 miles on the inner track.
J J's Lucky Train reeled off a pair of convincing allowance tallies at Monmouth Park and Parx Racing before launching his sophomore campaign in the January 1 Count Fleet at a mile and 70 yards, and the Bill Anderson-trained colt surged to the lead in midstretch before giving way late to the fast-closing Monzon (Thunder Gulch), who will bypass Saturday's race. J J's Lucky Train does his best running on or close to the early lead, and there doesn't appear to be much speed in the Whirlaway. He looks like the one to catch with regular rider Jose Ferrer.
Rescind the Trade will make his stakes debut following a sharp allowance/optional-claiming score over the inner track on December 19. A debut winner at Parx Racing in late October, the Richard Violette Jr. trainee registered a 102 BRIS Speed rating when stretching out to two turns last time and is the only member of the Whirlaway field with a triple-digit Speed number to his credit. The promising chestnut will pick up the services of Alan Garcia.
PREACHINTOTHEDEVIL (Pulpit) will step up to face open rivals for the first time off a good-looking win in the Champagneforashley S. Trained by Gary Contessa, the New York-bred rallied to a 3 1/2-length decision last time, and the once-beaten colt should have no trouble with Saturday's distance. He will keep Junior Alvarado in the saddle. SKY MUSIC (Sky Mesa), who hails from the mighty Todd Pletcher stable, will look to rebound after finishing third as the even-money favorite in the Champagneforashley. ARTHUR'S TALE (Bernardini), a smart two-length maiden winner for Tom Albertrani two starts back, is eligible to improve off a fourth in the Count Fleet, his first attempt against winners.
TOBY'S CORNER (Bellamy Road) and NORMAN ASBJORNSON (Real Quiet), who will invade Aqueduct following allowance wins at Laurel Park and Parx Racing, respectively, round out the line-up.
