With jockey Luis Quinonez aboard, ALTERNATION (Distorted Humor) geared up for Saturday's Rebel S. (G2) by covering four furlongs in :48 3/5 over a wet-fast track at Oaklawn Park Monday. He was a 3 1/4-length allowance winner against older rivals on February 21.

Alternation"It looked like he went well," trainer Donnie Von Hemel said. "I caught him going out (five furlongs) in 1:02 4/5 and it was nice and easy. (Photo courtesy of Oaklawn Park/Coady Photography.)

"He's kind of deceiving the way he strides, you look down at your watch and you don't think he's going that fast, but he really is. Everything is good right now."

Fellow Rebel hopeful PICKO'S PRIDE (Cactus Ridge), fourth at odds of 79-1 in the Southwest S. (G3), sped five panels in 1:00 4/5 under jockey Israel Ocampo.

"It was a nice work -- the best he's ever trained," trainer Mac Robertson noted.

"I got him galloping out (six furlongs) in (1:)12. Maybe he went a little faster because of the rain, but it was a good work."
