Take Charge Brandi may have clinched an Eclipse Award as champion two-year-old filly by leading all the way in Saturday's Grade 1, $350,500 Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos.
Willis Horton's well-bred filly added 10 more Kentucky Oaks points to her total of 30, which tops the leaderboard. She had scored 10 apiece for her previous victories in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies and Delta Downs Princess.
Trained by Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas and ridden by Victor Espinoza of California Chrome fame, Take Charge Brandi was all heart down the stretch to fend off Feathered and Maybellene and extend her winning streak to three. She negotiated 1 1/16 miles in 1:42 and paid $4.60 to win.
