El Kabeir proved much the best against eight three-year-old rivals in Saturday's Grade 3, $200,000 Jerome at Aqueduct, the first Kentucky Derby prep of 2015.

Hero of the Kentucky Jockey Club at Churchill Downs in his juvenile finale in late November, El Kabeir earned 10 qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby field with this victory and is presently the overall leader with 21 points.

El Kabeir made a three-wide bid for the lead around the far turn, edged clear of Nasa and a tiring Ostrolenka at the top of the stretch, and won convincingly by 4 3/4 lengths under Chuck Lopez.

El Kabeir completed one mile and 70 yards over the good inner dirt in 1:44 3/5 and paid $4.90 as the 7-5 favorite. He is owned by Zayat Stables and trained by John Terranova.
