Launching an inside move reminiscent of his winning rally in the Smarty Jones S. last time out, Far Right rolled late to get up by three-quarters of a length in Sunday's Southwest S. (G3) at Oaklawn Park.
Hall of Famer Mike Smith was back in the saddle as Far Right covered 1 1/16 miles on a sloppy, sealed track in 1:47 2/5. The Ron Moquett trainee returned $7.40 as the 5-2 second choice.
Far Right scored 10 points toward the Kentucky Derby, increasing his overall haul to 22.
The Truth or Else and Mr. Z, who had been battling before Far Right swept past them both, were separated by a nose at the wire. Runner-up The Truth or Else banked five Derby points and now has a total of six, while Mr. Z's third-place effort (two points) gave him 14 all told.
Bold Conquest splashed home for fourth, adding one point to his ledger totaling seven.
