Kentucky Derby Green Beans

Served at the Kentucky Derby by Churchill Downs Chef Daniel Danielson

  • 1/2 pound fresh green beans, tips cut and washed
  • 1tbsp smoked sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp sorghum
  • 2 tbsp teriyaki sauce
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

In a small pot of boiling water blanch green beans for 2-3 minutes.  Drain the green beans and shock them in a small bowl of ice water.  In a medium size saute pan over medium high heat add olive oil and let it heat up.  Add the green beans and season with teriyaki sauce, kosher salt, and black pepper.  Cook for 2-3 minutes then add the sorghum and half of the smoked sesame seeds.  plate and garnish with the rest of the sesame seeds.
