Doug F. O'Neill

Since obtaining his training license in 1994, Doug O’Neill has steadily evolved in to a force in the world of horse racing. He transplanted from his native Dearborn, Michigan to Southern California where he currently runs the largest and most successful stable in the country. With well over 2,000 career wins, and over $100 million in career earnings, O’Neill garnered a Trainer of the Year Award in 2002 from the California Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association. He has won countless major stakes, and also owns five victories at the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. His most notable horse is I’ll Have Another, whom he trained to wins the 2012 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. He has four Breeders’ Cup victories thanks to Goldencents at the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile in 2013, Maryfield and the Filly and Mare Turf Sprint in 2007 and Thor’s Echo at the 2006 Sprint. O’Neill currently oversees the training of Nyquist, the 2015 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner and one of the preferred choices at this year’s Kentucky Derby.
