J. Keith Desormeaux
A son of Louisiana, Desormeaux attended Louisiana Tech where he studied animal science. Desormeaux had previously served under trainer Charlie Handy through the 1980’s before striking out on his own in 1991. He is best known for training Ive Struck A Nerve, who won the 2013 Risen Star Stakes before being injured on the derby trail. He’s also won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile with Texas Red in 2014. Desormeaux would also drive Swipe to a second place finish at that same event a year later. His brother is Kent Desormeaux, a Hall of Fame jockey who has won the Kentucky Derby three times (Real Quiet, Fusaichi Pegasus, and Big Brown).
