John C. Servis
With well over 1,000 wins in his career as a trainer, it’s hard to believe that John Servis started at the very bottom. He has been everything from a stableman to a hot walker as he learned his craft before making Florida his base of operations. Servis is the brother of horse trainer Jason Servis and the brother-in-law to fellow trainer Edward Plesa Jr. A longstanding horse man, Servis has nearly 1,500 wins and $44.5 million in career earnings as a trainer. His most notable wins were at the 2004 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes where he submitted Smarty Jones for a shot at the Triple Crown. Smarty Jones would fall short a the 2004 Belmont Stakes, placing second behind Birdstone. Servis has also guided Jostle and Round Pond as well.
