Saeed bin Suroor

  • Born on November 16, 1968 in Dubai.
  • Suroor has made six appearances at the Kentucky Derby with his best finish being in 2000 with China Visit.
  • Trains privately for prominent owner Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who races under the Godolphin Racing and Darley Stables banner, and is the United Arab Emirates Vice-President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.
  • Suroor oversees training in Europe, North America, Australia, and Dubai for Godolphin Racing.
  • Was named the British Flat Racing Champion trainer in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2004.
  • Completed a rare training triple in 1995 winning the Epsom Derby, King George, and the Arc de Triomphe with Lammtarra.
  • Ranked fourth in purses earned in 2009 with $8,064,396 lead by Regal Ransom, who ran eighth in the 135th Kentucky Derby and went on to win the Super Derby at Louisiana Downs.
  • A former policeman, Suroor took out his trainer’s license in 1994 in the United Arab Emirates to start Desert Stables.
  • It was in 1995 Suroor began training for Sheikh Mohammed’s Al Quoz Stable in Dubai, which was the headquarters of Godolphin operation.
  • Suroor has won races in the United States, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Japan, Italy, Ireland, Hong Kong, France, Australia, Great Britain, and Canada.
