Thomas M. Amoss

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Tom Amoss graduated from LSU and took out his trainer’s license in 1987. An intensely successful career has generated 3,246 wins for Amoss and more than $86-million in earnings. He has 25 major stakes victories, his first being the Louisiana Handicap in 1990 with Festive. Amoss was inducted in to the Fair Grounds Racing Hall of Fame in 1998. His most notable horses include Backtalk and Heritage of Gold, who placed third at the Breeders’ Cup Distaff in both 1999 and 2000. Mylute is another one of his notable trainees, having finished third at the 2013 Preakness Stake. He will run three-year old Mo Tom at this year’s Kentucky Derby.
